Timeline & Background
My life took a different course, however, when I joined the Air Force in 1971 and became assigned to hospital administration until 1975. During my time in the military I became “born again” in a little Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, Florida on January 9, 1972. In 1973 I received new orders to Anchorage, Alaska where I met my wife, Roseann in a Christian coffee shop. We were married on May 11, 1974.
While I was in Florida, I received my calling to the ministry, but it was in Anchorage where I received my theological foundation in the Bible College of a charismatic church called, Abbott Loop Christian Center (ALCC). After I received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1975 I was ordained as a pastor by the leadership of ALCC in November 27, 1975 and then sent out on January 11, 1976. My team consisted of my wife, our infant daughter, and four other people to start our first church in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. We were the 24th team to be sent out of ALCC.
After seven years, my first church was established with 350 people, I moved my family to Oregon in 1983 to a sister church in our network. My assignment there was to pioneer a part-time Bible School. We were there for three years.
After the school was established, we moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1986 to plant our second church with a team of forty people who needed a pastor. The church grew to 600 people. In 1994 we moved to Atlanta, Georgia for a much needed sabbatical. It was in Atlanta that I earned my Bachelors in Biblical Studies (1995), my Masters in Theology (1996) and my Doctorate of Ministry (1997), all through Logos Christian College & Graduate School in Jacksonville, Florida. During my sabbatical, I also worked as a freelance artist for Penny Lane Publishing and developed a large inventory of images. You can see some of my art on this site and order any prints I have available.
During our time in Atlanta, I wrote a novel called The Unveiling, which was an interpretive fiction of the Book of The Revelation. It was published through a subsidiary publisher (WinePress Publishing) in 1997 and sold out as one of their bestsellers. You can still find copies of the first edition on Amazon.com. I plan to one day revise and update the novel. I traveled to a number of churches across the country to teach seminars on the Book of The Revelation and sold my novel as a resource for the seminar. In my time with the pastors I received nudges from the Lord to return to pastoring a church of my own.
After much prayer, prophetic confirmation, and encouragement from my mentors and colleagues, Roseann and I moved from Atlanta to Davidson, North Carolina to plant our third church in March of 1998. We called it River’s Edge Church and had our first service on January 24, 1999, with 16 people. Later that year, I went on to complete my Ph.D. in Theology in 1999 with Logos Christian College & Graduate School. On January 11, 2015, I resigned from pastoring the church and turned it over to our associate pastor and his wife.
My wife and I now reside in the north Charlotte area of NC. Our two children also live in the area and are successful in their careers. We are now privileged to serve other pastors and churches in our “golden age,” not as retirees, but as “reassigned” ministers.
I currently serve as an apostle on a leadership team with a network of ministries and churches called Vanguard Network International. Now that I’m not pastoring local churches any more, God isn’t done with me. To continue to serve the body of Christ, I have established a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization called Jay Zinn Ministries. To supplement my income I’ve started two “tent making” companies: 1) a fine-art company called Jay Zinn Art, and 2) a book-publishing company called iZee Books to sell the books and discipleship courses I’ve written.
This is my story, and I continue to be a work in progress on the Potter’s wheel.

With the revolution of technology, authors can now publish their own writings. That’s why I created iZee Books (“i” for internet, “Zee” for the phonetic sound my last initial). I thought it would sound cooler than “JZ Publications.”
Since everyone has a life story, I want to share mine about the things that have strengthened my walk in God more than anything else. My books will reflect these insights in the areas of the practice of discipleship, experiencing intimacy with God, building a solid foundation in his Word, learning how to study the Word, and gaining a keener understanding of end time truths. These lessons have continued to accelerate and deepened my walk and, I pray, will propel you toward a deeper encounter with God.
After you have read them, I would love to hear from you.
